A house move in Calgary rarely goes sideways because of the lifting. It goes sideways in the details: a sectional that won't clear the basement stairs, a truck with nowhere to park on a crescent full of cars, a crew that turns up two hours late because it squeezed three jobs into one morning. Best Calgary Movers is a family-owned residential moving company that plans around those details.
We have been moving Calgary households for more than 15 years, and we limit how many moves we book each day. That keeps the schedule honest: the crew you reserve arrives when promised and stays until the last piece of furniture is where you want it.
What's included with every residential move
Home moves are billed by the hour, and every booking comes with the same standard setup — whether it's a one-bedroom bungalow or a four-bedroom house on the edge of the city:
- A trained crew of two, three or four movers, sized to the amount you're moving.
- A moving truck, with fuel included for moves within Calgary.
- Blankets, pads, dollies and straps so furniture, floors and door frames stay protected.
- Basic disassembly and reassembly of beds, tables and other pieces that won't fit through a doorway in one piece.
- Loading, transport and unloading, with furniture and boxes placed in the rooms you choose.
- Cargo protection in the standard rate, with extra valuation coverage available on request.
Boxes, tape and packing paper aren't part of the hourly rate — you pay only for the supplies you actually use. If you'd rather not pack at all, add our packing services and the crew will arrive ready to box up the house.
Houses, townhomes, condos and everything between
No two Calgary homes move the same way. A 1950s bungalow in Haysboro often has a narrow basement staircase and a back lane that's the only sensible place for the truck. A new build in Seton or Mahogany has wide doors, but on a Saturday the street is lined with parked cars. A townhome in Evanston usually means an attached garage and two flights of stairs inside. We plan the crew and where the truck goes for the home you're leaving and the one you're moving into.
Our residential crews regularly handle:
- Detached houses, bungalows and split-levels
- Townhomes and duplexes
- Condos and apartments — see apartment movers for elevator bookings and building rules
- Basement and secondary suites
- Partial moves: a few rooms, a single appliance, or items heading to storage
- Downsizing for seniors, done at a patient pace with family involved
How residential moving is priced
You pay for the crew and truck by the hour, from the moment the crew starts work until the last item is set down in your new home. Current hourly rates:
| Crew | Hourly rate | Usually right for |
|---|---|---|
| 2 movers + truck | $125/hr | Studios, 1- and 2-bedroom apartments |
| 3 movers + truck | $165/hr | Townhomes, 2- and 3-bedroom houses |
| 4 movers + truck | $210/hr | Large houses, lots of heavy furniture, tight deadlines |
One extra hour at the crew rate covers the truck and travel. Appliances are $40 per unit, and very heavy items such as pianos or gun safes are priced per item. GST is added at 5%. As a rough guide, a two-bedroom apartment takes about three hours with two movers, and a three-bedroom house about five hours with three.
Moving day, step by step
- Arrival and plan. The crew confirms with you what's moving, what's staying and which pieces need extra care.
- Protect and prepare. Furniture gets wrapped in blankets, and beds or tables come apart where they need to.
- Load. Heavy pieces go in first and are strapped down; boxes are stacked by room so unloading goes quickly.
- Unload and set up. Furniture goes into the rooms you pick, beds and tables are reassembled, and boxes land where they belong.
- Final check. You look everything over with the crew before the clock stops.
Tips for a faster, cheaper house move
With hourly pricing, every minute saved on moving day is money you keep. A few things make a real difference:
- Book month-end and weekend dates early. They fill up first, especially in summer.
- Save a parking spot near the door at both addresses. A shorter walk from the truck shortens the whole move.
- Pack and label by room, and tape every box shut so boxes stack safely.
- Get appliances ready the day before — fridge emptied and defrosted, washer disconnected.
- Clear snow and ice in winter. Calgary moves happen all year; shovelled walkways and driveways keep everyone safe and moving.
