Apartment & condo moving

Apartment Movers Calgary

Condo towers, walk-ups and rental suites — moves planned around your building's elevator booking, loading area and move-in rules, with a crew that works quickly in tight spaces.

Moving out of an apartment is less about distance and more about access. The truck may be allowed at the loading area for only a couple of hours, the service elevator has to be reserved ahead of time, and the hallway between your door and that elevator is shared with neighbours who still need to get to work. As apartment movers in Calgary, we plan the move around those limits first and around the furniture second.

Best Calgary Movers is a family-owned moving company with more than 15 years of experience in the city. We keep a limited number of jobs on the schedule each day, which matters when your building hands you a fixed window: the crew shows up at the start of your booking, not halfway through it.

Condo movers who work around building rules

Most condo and apartment buildings in Calgary set their own moving policies, usually through the property manager or the condo board. Before you settle on a date, it pays to find out:

  • Whether the service elevator has to be reserved, and for how many hours
  • Which days and times moves are allowed — plenty of buildings rule out late evenings, Sundays or holidays
  • Where a moving truck can park: a loading area, the street out front, or an underground parkade
  • Whether the parkade entrance is too low for a moving truck to get through
  • Any deposit or move-in fee the building collects

Share those details when you request a quote and we'll plan the crew's arrival and the truck's position around them. If your building has a concierge or front desk, we coordinate with them on the day, so the elevator is ready and the loading area is clear when the crew pulls up.

What our apartment movers handle

Every apartment move comes with the people, the truck and the gear needed to get furniture out of a compact unit without scuffing anything on the way down:

  • Two or more trained movers and a truck, with fuel covered for moves inside Calgary.
  • Moving blankets over every large piece, so corners don't catch elevator walls or door frames in shared hallways.
  • Dollies and straps for dressers, appliances and other heavy items.
  • Bed frames, dining tables and shelving taken apart when they're too big for the elevator, then rebuilt at the new address.
  • Boxes and furniture set down in the rooms you pick, not stacked by the front door.
  • Cargo protection built into the rate, with additional valuation coverage if you request it when booking.

What apartment moving costs

Apartment moves are billed by the hour. For most studios and one- or two-bedroom suites, a two-person crew is the right fit at $125/hr with the truck included. When there's a long carry to the loading area, no elevator, or a tight window from the building, a third mover at $165/hr can shorten the job enough to be worth it.

Home Typical crew Typical working time
Studio 2 movers About 2 hours
1-bedroom apartment 2 movers About 2 hours
2-bedroom apartment 2 movers About 3 hours
2-bedroom townhouse 3 movers About 4 hours

On top of working time, travel is charged as one extra hour at the crew rate. Appliances are $40 each, boxes start at $4, and 5% GST applies. Since billing follows the clock, a clear elevator booking and a short walk to the truck directly lower the final number.

Walk-ups, basement suites and tight corners

Not every apartment has an elevator. Older three-storey walk-ups in neighbourhoods like Bankview, Sunalta and Crescent Heights mean carrying everything down narrow stairwells, often with a landing turn that a long sofa can only make standing on end. Basement suites come with low ceilings and side entrances. We size up the awkward pieces before lifting them and remove legs, doors or frames when that's the safer route.

And if something genuinely won't fit — a sectional that went in before a renovation narrowed the stairs, for example — we'll tell you before it's wedged halfway down the stairwell, not after.

Apartment moving-day checklist

  1. Reconfirm the elevator booking and your move time with building management a few days before.
  2. Sort out parking at the new building, including where the truck can stop and which door to use.
  3. Box up small things. Loose items in bags and baskets mean extra elevator trips.
  4. Collect keys, fobs and parkade passes for both buildings in one envelope.
  5. Clear a path from your door to the hallway so nothing blocks the first load.

Rather skip packing altogether? Our packing services cover full or partial packing, with fragile items wrapped and every box labelled.

Apartment and condo moves across Calgary

We move condos and apartments all over the city — towers in the Beltline and Downtown, newer buildings in East Village, low-rises in Mission and Kensington, and walk-ups and rental suites in suburbs from Sage Hill and Evanston in the north to Mahogany and Seton in the south.

Trading an apartment for a house? Our residential movers handle that too. Moving a small business out of a commercial unit? See office movers, and for a move to Canmore or another Alberta town, long-distance movers. Every community we cover is listed on the service areas page, or you can book your move online.

Common questions

Apartment and condo moving questions

Do you book the elevator with my building?
In most buildings the elevator has to be reserved by the resident, through the property manager or condo board. Book it first, then send us the time and any building rules. We'll schedule the crew to arrive at the start of your window and coordinate with the concierge on the day if your building has one.
How long does a one-bedroom apartment move take?
With two movers, a typical studio or one-bedroom takes about two hours of working time, and a two-bedroom about three. A long walk to the loading area, stairs instead of an elevator, or a lot of heavy furniture will add time.
Can a moving truck get into my underground parkade?
Usually not. Most parkade entrances are too low for a moving truck, so ask your building where movers should park, often a loading area or the street. We'll plan the carry from there.
What if my building only allows moves on certain days?
That's common. Lock in your building's window first, then check our availability. We work seven days a week from 7 am to 9 pm, and weekday dates are usually easier to get than weekends or the end of the month.
Do I need three movers for a two-bedroom apartment?
Not usually. Two movers handle most two-bedroom apartments. A third mover helps when there's a long carry, no elevator, or a lot of heavy furniture. We'll suggest a crew size once we know the details.
